Benefits of LISS

Beyond sport specific training, what are the benefits of steady state work - in the context of either weight loss or resistance training? It seems that HIIT training seems best for these purposes. Would you please clarify the benefits of LISS in these contexts?

Would recommend searching the forums in cases like this, as it has been discussed a number of times before.

That said, why do you think HIIT is better for weight loss or resistance training? These would be relatively new developments in exercise science, if true.

As far as benefits of steady state work, it improves cardiorespiratory fitness better than sprint work- provided you test the individuals with longer duration pieces. That said, we recommend both in accordance with the 2018 physical activity guidelines.

Thank, Jordan!

I was going by the article you wrote on the blog: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog…-conditioning/. You pointed out that for weight loss, HIIT is better than LISS since you end burning more calories total and your metabolism slows down if your conditioning is mostly LISS. For resistance training, HIIT improves ones ability to recover from the higher volumes of training.

Yea, that article is unfortunately wrong.

Jordan, would you recommend a source to read more about LISS and HIIT? Specifically as it is applied to weight loss and resistance training?

Pretty often, Adam. I’m just inundated with work so it’s a slog. I’ll get to this one.
