Bent Rows as Pendlay Row sub ?

I do a lot of pendlay style rows but was looking to mix it up again.

ive noticed in the past you guys have recommended Yates style rows but not necessarily traditional style bent over rows. Any reason for this?

Should I just use bw inverted rows instead?

Upper back work is important, but to be honest I think people sometimes get too dogmatic about specific row variations. I really don’t think it matters in most cases. I’ve done just about every kind of row over the years, and I haven’t really found any particular variation to be uniquely beneficial (for my goals at least). I tend to mostly gravitate to machines and/or dumbbell rows. I find traditional and Pendlay barbell rows to be a little too taxing on my lower back for me to justify including them in my program (prefer to save my lower back for squats and deads). I also find barbell rows to be somewhat of a hassle to set up as opposed to just grabbing a dumbbell off the rack or hopping on a machine. At the end of the day, I’m just trying to do some upper back hypertrophy and strength work to supplement the powerlifting competition lifts. You might have different goals, though.
