Pendlay row, evil?

Is Pendlay row more frequent in the templates now?

I can never get them to feel good and it feels like they bust up the back of my shoulder/shoulderblades

How do you handle them or do you allways exchange them for some other exercise?

I actually think it might be programmed less, but I haven’t tracked that. What template are you doing now?

They are a reasonable amount of work for your upper back and you could feel that in your shoulder blades but I don’t expect them to really fatigue your shoulders much. Are you doing them regularly (ie allowing time to adapt to them) and using a reasonable RPE?

But if you really don’t like Pendlay Rows, other rows are great too!

Was a bit surpriced that it was a default row movement in the BB II. I thought it was a power movement.

If I understand correctly its supposed to induce less fatigue than standard barbell row and done in a more explosive way?

I think the “jerking” motion of it irritates my tendons/muscle attachments

If you want to keep Pendlays in the block, I would suggest doing them more “row like” and with less jerking or explosion since you’re feeling it so much in your shoulders. So I would try dialing that back a bit, still rowing from the floor, limiting body english (but feel free to keep some in), and concentrating on the “row” movement with your elbows going toward the ceiling.

I like this video of Alan’s How to Row
And there is a quick look at several variations here.
