BMI and waist circumference - should I lose weight?

Hello Jordan

I am male, 28yo, 82kg (181lbs) bodyweight with a 94cm (37") waist. I just measured by BMI - 29.1.

To have a ‘healthy’ BMI I should be between 52.2kg and 70.6kg. Based on the Navy calculator I am about 23% body fat.

I have 2 years of strength training and powerlifting experience and have competed in one powerlifting meet (2018). I am by no means jacked or an elite powerlifter, with PRs of Squat 195kg/Bench 113kg/Deadlift 210kg at this body weight.

I have no ambitions or chances of being a world champion athlete. As such, should I lose some (or many) kilos to get into the low risk BMI category?

Visually, I believe most of my fat is around the abdomen and thighs if that is useful info.

Background: I was very overweight in 2017 (97kg) but slowly cut down to 82kg where I have maintained weight for about 12 months.

Thank you,

Jared

Your waist suggests you’re not at an increased risk from carrying too much body fat. If you want to be leaner, that’s a personal decision
