Brian Alsruhe recommend to breath and brace before unracking the overhead press. Then holding your breath for as many reps as possible and using the stretch reflex. I’ve noticed Barbell Medicine pressing with a pause at the bottom between reps. Therefore I’m wondering about your take on this, and how you recommend breathing during the press?
I think breathing before unracking a heavy single or heavy effort can be a good strategy for some. We wouldn’t recommend touch and go press in order to strengthen your strict overhead press, however. It’s kind of like bouncing your deadlifts IMO.
Do you recommend breathing at the bottom or lock out?
Either way can work. I don’t feel strongly about it either way. I personally breath at lock out.
