Burpees

Last month I completed a little burpee challenge for myself, 50 burpees a day. This month I am doing 60, and I think I’d like to just keep it a staple of my daily routine( can’t hurt right?)

so I’m wondering from a cardio / health standpoint what would be the best way to set them up. When I have the time for it I’ve been doing sets of 6 with 1:30-2:00 break for about 5 sets at a time. Is this better than doing say 10 every hour for health / cardio outcomes or it doesn’t really matter so long as I’m doing them?

for the record these don’t count toward any of my training. I’m lifting 4-5x a week plus running / walks / rowing / step ups and box jumps etc for cardio. This is just a little extra challenge I like to give myself.

The burpees apply a non-zero training stimulus to you, which may or may not be beneficial. That said, I don’t think the way you’re doing them likely improves cardiorespiratory fitness outcomes much, as it doesn’t really tax the system in that duration.

For conditioning, you basically have two major options- go low and slow for a long time, or hard and fast for a short time. It doesn’t sound like you’re doing either.

I do think more activity is better for health in general, but I don’t think there’s much to be had from a performance standpoint here.

If it were me, I would try and bottle the motivating factor(s) you’re experiencing and put it towards something structured.
