Calisthenics vs no training

Hello everyone!
My brother wants to “get strong”, but ONLY via calisthenics. He’s very stuck on the idea that it will “get you shredded”.
I’m going to do his programming with the layout similar to Bridge 1.0(from my experience) where each week you add a set, at about the same intensity.
Or maybe a different approach? Im a little lost, and sorry if this belongs in the unmoderated.
cheers, thanks!

It’s possible to get pretty jacked using only or mainly bodyweight exercises; just look at some of the gymnasts or hand balance artists out there. I spent a few years training via calisthenics to supplement rock climbing, and (I think) got fairly lean and muscular as a result. If that’s what he’s into, good luck to him. If he’s genuinely interested in bodybuilding, I suspect that he’ll gravitate toward training with weights over time.

In the meantime, he could do worse than running the “Recommended Routine”: https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightf…mended_routine

I know, I know, it’s Reddit, but that’s a pretty solid routine (I used an earlier version to good effect) with plenty of information and a well-defined progression. It’s also designed to substitute in barbell movements as desired.

Yea - what he said. calisthenics and especially gymnastic movements can be great. Strength is specific anyway and if that’s what he values, just encourage that.

Thanks for the info! I tried to gear him towards weight training, but ANY training is better than no training. I appreciate your time.

I used that routine early in my lifting journey and I can confirm it is a very good place to start. And the community there is great.
