Calorie deficit and “refeeds”

Hi doctors,
in the context of someone who is far off the waist cut off points for health issues but who’s nonetheless losing weight simply to get leaner, and wants to do so in a manner yielding as favorable a body composition as possible and mantain (at the very least) as much strength as possible, do you think that there is, outside of adherence, any benefit at all to planned “refeed” days?

I remember reading an article on the BBM website where Jordan writes that planned high carb hypercaloric days when in a deficit can help kickstart a slowed metabolism, but that article is veeery old, so I’m curious what the current position is/what the current evidence says.

No, I don’t think refeeds reliably improve adherence or results. I definitely didn’t say that high carb days kickstart a slow metabolism, but if I implied that…I’d like to clarify- there’s no impact on metabolism here.

Thank you!
