Im in the last 3 weeks of my peaking block , today I was messing with 90 % and it seems as though I’ve actually gotten weaker since my last pr. As I’m going through my mind what I could have done wrong , I can’t help but constantly think about what you guys preach , that the further along you are the more volume you need to drive progress. Right now I’m only benching twice a week , so my question is how would I fit a third day in? My lifting days are Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday , so I would inevitably have to bench 2 days in a row , I suppose it’s no issue as long as the percentages are low enough ?
You can bench two days in a row, and in fact, many of our templates are set up that way.
When I get ready for a meet, I bench every day, (like all 7 days of the week), and being able to use RPE helps.
How do you go about setting that up? First bench day of the week is the heavy day? And then a light day and a variation? Or they’re all the same ? And what’s the difference as far as sets and reps day to day ? Sorry this would be a whole different world
I don’t know anything about your current training, so that’s tough to say, but in general you can have one competition bench day and then a variation later in the week. Have you downloaded the Barbell Medicine free e-book and template called The Bridge? I’d check that out for some programming information.
It’s 4 days a week
Monday is squat
Tuesday is bench
Thursday is deadlift and then a squat variation ( wide stance , pause , or tempo)
friday is my second bench day so I’ll do a variation and incline bench
Why not go to three lifts per session? That would give you way more slots to play with.
I only have an hour and a half to 2 hours per session so trying to cram all 3 in there I don’t think would be productive.
You can definitely do three lifts in that time. I do suggest you check out the Bridge for some further programming ideas!
