Hello,
So, recently I was exposed to COVID and it’s very likely that I have it. I have a lot of symptoms (102 fever that I got through in one night without taking medicine besides extra strength tylenol, had an awful headache, mild cough, some nasal congestion, and a sore throat + feeling that I have stuff in my throat) and have not yet been tested since showing symptoms. I was tested 3 days before I started showing symptoms and it came back negative (rapid test & PCR test). It’s the next day, and I am feeling much better since my headache subsided. I am now just dealing with congestion and a little bit of a cough. The congestion in my throat does make breathing a little harder, but I am still able to take in deep breaths and breathe through my nose.
I’m a healthy 23 year old male with no underlying heart or lung problems that I’m aware of. I’m 6’0, have a healthy bodyweight (182-185 lbs), waist circumference, and BMI. I lift weights 3-4 times a week and do cardio 2-4 times per week. I eat a healthy diet with adequate protein, and I do try to get several servings of fruits and veggies each day (except maybe for this past week or so bc of being away from home and eating more junk than normal and exceedingly few fruits/veggies). I put a lot of emphasis on health and lifting because I enjoy it and I want to live a long, healthy life.
I am aware that nobody here is my doctor, and thus no one can diagnose me or potentially even give me advice.
However, I am looking for some guidance and peace of mind I guess.
My questions are: 1. Should I be concerned about long term health effects? Can I just get over it and be done like the flu and be fine? I’m nervous about the thought of possibly having negative health outcomes or cardio respiratory consequences as a result of getting a touch of covid.
2. I had a very brief telehealth visit with a doctor I’ve never seen before and he prescribed a medicine for the flu and one for covid bc I did not get my flu shot and thus we are not certain what I have. My family advised me to take alka seltzer cold + flu tablets, and not to take the “Tamiflu” bc I’m already past the fever and it allegedly causes hallucinations. I plan to just take night time alka seltzer tonight and see how I feel tomorrow since I’m seemingly over the worst of my symptoms already. Is this dumb?
3. How should I modify my training? My thought is to just lift weights at home using my dumbbells and EZ Curl Bar and keep it pretty easy for the next week, avoid all HIIT, and maybe do some slow steady state cardio (easy walking on a treadmill or just outside) until I test negative and can go back to the gym.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but admittedly I am scared.
Thank you in advance for your time.
