Given creatine is composed of amino acids, is there a lowered sensitivity effect for older lifters like there is for dietary protein? So a dose of 3.5 g per day for a 200 lb person may not be sufficient for say a 60 y/o? Also, does the amount synthesized by the body go down as we age?
Moorejl57,
I am not aware of data suggesting that supplemental creatine is absorbed more poorly in older folks than younger folks so at this time, I would have to say, “probably not.”
As far as the amount of creatine being synthesized decreasing as we age the answer to that is “it depends.” If you don’t lose significant amounts of muscle mass, then no it doesn’t go down by much, if at all.
Good to know, thank you!
