Deadlifting w/ compromised meniscus

Dr. Feigenbaum and Dr. Baraki,

A few years back I had surgery to remove and repair part of my lateral meniscus. Since then I have recovered and resumed barbell training. I’ve never learned how to pull sumo and have avoided trying out of fear that it could further damage my right knee. To the best of your knowledge, is there any difference in how the menisci deal with load in conventional vs sumo pulling? Can pulling sumo be any more or less damaging than conventional deadlifts for an individual with a compromised meniscus?

Thank you for your time,
Roman

I am not aware of any data on this, sorry. I would guess that you’d be fine.
