New Forum Member - Effect on LB Squat from Sumo

Hi BBM crew,

I’ve been lifting for about 1.5-2 years and have only every pulled conventional, recently I decided to switch over to Sumo and have gotten pretty good results. That being said I have also noticed a small but noticeable decline in my Low Bar Squat. My question is (understanding that you can’t necessarily answer for my specific case): Are you aware of any impact that a switch from Conventional to Sumo would have on the Low Bar Squat, possibly from a different distribution of load causing more fatigue on those muscles than before? Or am I just nocebo-ing myself?

Thanks

Sumo tends to distribute a bit more stress across the quads compared to conventional, which may be contributing. The other consideration would be sumo as a novel stimulus in general, particularly if you’re pulling more sumo than you were conventional.

Regardless, should improve with time.
