If someone wants to maximize their body composition around their current bodyweight (and currently has a waist circumference in the healthy range), is it advantageous to go through weight gain/loss cycles, or does simultaneously gaining lean mass and losing fat mass with maintenance calories ultimately result in equivalent outcomes?
What do you mean by maximize their body composition?
And, what context are we in here, e.g. a beginner or well-trained individual?
By “maximize body composition”, I mean increase lean mass and decrease fat mass, but have so significant net change to total mass long-term. For example, a trained individual (5 years of lifting experience) that is 205lbs with a 34in waist, who long-term wants to be at the same bodyweight, but with a 32inch waist and slightly more lean mass.
Yea, I think weight loss/gain cycles is probably the best way to do that.
