Dietetics

looking for some professional input. I am 45 and contemplating a return to school and my passion for health and fitness has spawned a possible interest in dietetics. However, as I read more and more, watch all the videos of current RD’s, I am finding that professional life does not truly mirror that of the rigors of the course work required to earn the bs/ms. My colleges program at Maryland, college park, is actually a pre-med track so it is no cakewalk. To me it appears as though an RD is to an MD as an architect is to an engineer. Any advice or input as to the realities of the field is appreciated, thanks!

I personally wouldn’t unless you plan on working for a MD or another Nutritionist. With that being said, Vanessa is BBM’s RD so I would reach out to her for more specific information.

Thanks for the response! What drives your opinion or view of the profession, or what do you find to dislike about it?

thanks again

So my somewhat educated opinion about this field comes from what I’ve seen online and a little bit in person.
I personally dislike the fact that some of them dont learn after graduating and only in-force old information only patients without looking at new(er) evidence. Some dont even know what evidence is and only work to make money off of innocent patients that dont know the difference but that happens in every medical field.
What I do like is when RDs and their cousins in their respective fields question the pseudoscience spewed by so called gurus. Also when they work with patients to create an informed plan to change the patients lifestyle and contribute to their overall health.
