I am writing on behalf of my mother, who is a two-time breast cancer survivor, currently 60 years-old, and reports feeling “hopeless” about her ability to manage her weight. While she is only modestly overweight, she worries about the potential impact future weight gain will have on her cancer management.
I have tried to find a registered dietitian in her area using the Academy of Nutrition in Dietetics’s directory, but almost all of the RDs that have come up promote detox cleanses, biomarker blood testing, functional medicine, and other practices which I assume to be silly BS.
Do you all have any alternative resources for finding an RD?
Thanks for the post and I hope your mom is doing well. I would recommend seeing if there are RD’s associated with her oncologist (typically there are) and going that route. Where are you located anyway?
Thank you for your response – my mother is doing well, thanks for asking. I hadn’t thought to ask if her oncologist has an RD or a team of RDs working with him, but I will certainly find out.
She lives in Los Angeles (Marina del Rey area) and is in care at City of Hope.
Good ol’ LA. Yea, check with the oncologist first and see who they team up with. Should be plenty of RD’s with all the academic centers down there. That’s where I would go.
