I’m a 42-year-old male, 6’1", 205lbs. I engage in weightlifting 3-4 days per week since 2016 and have variable aerobic activity levels (0-5 hours per week depending on work schedule). My sleep pattern is often disrupted, with instances of falling asleep on the couch and waking at 2 am to move to bed. Occasionally, I struggle to fall back asleep and get back on the couch, and let Seinfeld take my mind off of things to get back to sleep. The sleep thing has been ongoing for 6 months.
I’ve been experiencing spells of dizziness or lightheadedness, particularly during weightlifting and aerobic exercises. These episodes began in 2021, coinciding with the start of Buproprion medication, which I ceased a year ago. However, the dizzy spells persist at the gym, especially during the primary lifts, sometimes prompting me to leave the gym mid-session (I am sticking to the prescribed RPE in the templates). I’ve also noticed occasional dizziness in everyday life, albeit less frequently during manual labor at work.
I started measuring my blood pressure two months ago. I’m always in the normal or elevated range after resting for a few minutes, never more than 130/80 or under 115/65. Yesterday I started measuring blood glucose and so far have been in the 5.5 - 7.7mmol. I have a Galaxywatch and my pulse is 55-70 at home, at rest. I’m taking these metrics because I’ve read that dizzy spells like this can be cause by a variety of factors such as blood pressure, blood glucose levels, anxiety and inner ear issues. I have gone through some stressful times at work lately, and have experienced anxiety for 20+ years.
I have an appointment to speak with my GP next week and I’d like to be prepared. Are there any specific questions or tests that I should ask for? If it is an inner ear issue causing vertigo of sorts, is there anything I can do to improve on the situation if I get a generic “come back in a month if it’s still bothering you”-type of answer from my GP?
Thanks for all the great content!
