Early OHP stalling

Hey guys,

I’ve been on SSLP for 7 weeks now. I’m 26yrs old, 186cm, 85kg. I’ve gained 9.1 kg in 5-6 weeks and I’ve been stable for about 1-2 weeks now.

My lifts are increasing as planned except for my overhead press. I’ve failed my reps at 35kg once and then tried again the next time the exercise came up and made it. The time after that I failed to even complete my first set (only 4 reps) at 37.5kg.

I eat 3800 kcal/day, 230p/100f/480c give or take, I sleep around 7-7h30 a night and I rest 6-7mins between sets (maybe 4-5mins after the last warm-up set).

I’m pretty sure I have decent technique (but I could always post a video for form check). That being said I have the issue of having a shorter arm (approx. 1 inch shorter) so that might be one of the reasons…

I’m not quite sure why I’m stalling on my OHP so early, 37.5kg is almost nothing. Are 2.5kg jumps really too much at this point for me already? Should I just decrease the jumps to 1.25kg?

What would you recommend?

Thank you for your help!

I would suggest a form check over on the SS coaches’ forum. And if you have the ability, move to 1.25kg jumps now to keep this moving. But I’d definitely get a form check to makes sure you aren’t missing something pretty straight forward to fix.

Looking back at my old training log, I first failed OHP at 80lbs and made 2-3lb jumps after that. 3 strikes and I was out at 100 which required a reset but I still made it up to 132 eventually on LP so definitely make smaller jumps and keep trying. And if you do have to reset a couple of times that’s not as much cause for alarm as say stalling on your squat.
