you mentioned recently that as long as total protein consumption is adequate the source of protein in a single meal likely doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of the day’s protein intake. This got me thinking about the various reasons to switch out some of the animal based proteins for plant based proteins to reduce saturated fat intakes and increase fiber and potential vitamins and minerals. My question is, are there any reasons from an overall health and longevity perspective to switch out some Whey Protein or other Milk Based protein for a Plant based protein instead? For example If I consumer on average 3 Scoops of protein per day (2 at night as a pudding and 1 in the morning in my oats) would there be a useful benefit from replacing one of those with a plant based protein? Thank you!
No, not really.
I think we should be thinking about overall dietary patterns when it comes to assessing whether swapping certain foods make any real impact.
Does swapping the food change relatively important things like total calories eaten, fiber intake, saturated fat consumed, etc.?
If not, it probably doesn’t matter.
