External Haemorrhoid (Non bleeding)

Hello docs,

Male 32 y/o
Waist: 31.5
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 74.5 kg

P 202.5g / C 260.6g / F 65.7g / Fiber 71g (Fibers intake are from fruits, veg, wheat, legume)

This is my first time experiencing an external Haemorrhoid and it happened a couple of days ago. When I wake up in the morning it is usually not an issue for me as I do not feel any pain at all.

However, after performing a couple sets of squats, the haemorrhoid swelled up and it is affecting my daily life - I am having hard time walking/standing/sitting due to pain. I would really like to continue to squat but I am afraid of making it worse. Otherwise, should I replace squat with other leg exercises until I am fully recovered from it?

On a site note, I purchased a haemorrhoid ointment from the chemist yesterday Lidocaine 5% w/w and Hydrocortisone 0.5% w/w. I am also taking paracetamol for pain relief. However even with these medications, the awful pain is still there.

What do?

Kind regards,

Nick

We would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation and management.

While we can’t really weigh in on this specific case, as it definitely falls into consult territory, hemorrhoids do not represent an absolute contraindication to exercise. Exercise selection, loads, etc. may need to be modified based on symptoms.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for your advice.

I went to see the doctor today and I was examined with Thrombosed hemorrhoids and was advised to undergo a small operation to remove the blood clot.

I going for the operation tomorrow afternoon. Question - Can I train after the operation or should I rest for a couple of days to let the wound heal up?

Thanks again!

-Nick

Nick,

Again, we can’t really weigh in on this specific case- though we do offer consultations. In general, we recommend being active post procedure unless the risk of harm is greater than the benefits of exercise, which is very rare.
