ive seen several time in Brukner and Khan them mention that external rotators are usually weak in overhead athletes as a sport specific adaptation, and I’m just struggling to see why that would be?
Do you have a reference? I wouldn’t likely put much stock into this finding but curious to read more.

they mention it on page 379, 387,404. They do reference a paper on page 379 by Clarsen et al.,2014 (Reduced glenohumeral rotation, external rotation weakness and scapular dyskinesis are risk factors for shoulder injuries among elite male handball players: a prospective cohort study)
