First Meet - Optimal Prep

Hi -
I’ve been lifting for about 18-months and have learned a lot from your Youtube channel. I’m on week two of the 7-week 4-day hypertrophy template, getting good results, and I finally found the courage to sign up for my first powerlifting meet, which is eight weeks off. Should i shift to a strength template for, say, six weeks ,and then a peaking template for the meet prep? Or, should I finish the hypertrophy template, then attack a few weeks of peaking, thinking that long term progress is more important than the first meet total?

FYI, my progress in lifting helped inspired my 72-year old dad (smoker, two heart attacks, never strength-trained), to pick up a barbell under my shaky guidance. For deadlifts, he started rack pulls with the empty barbell, and today he pulled 140 for 2 sets of 4 reps from the floor at an RPE of 8. Thank you for giving us both a pathway to greater health.

Peter,

Glad to hear you dig the content and that your dad is training. Very cool.

I would just run the strength 1 template for the last 8 weeks to prep for the meet. Alternatively, you could run the hypertrophy template for the next 3 weeks and then one of our free peaking templates leading into the meet.
