Going into a meet with no prep

Hey Drs.!

So a few weeks ago I decided to sign up for a deadlift meet (very informal, no stakes really). This would actually be my first meet ever and my objective is just to have some fun and get some experience, so I’m not very interested in how much I lift that day.

I’m a week out now and I’m on week 7 of PB1, and I decided not to change the programming at all up to this point. So, a few questions here:

  1. Am I OK just running week 7 as is before the meet (which is on Saturday) or am I risking a bit too much fatigue overall for this week?
  2. Should I maybe switch days 2 and 3 of PB1 week 7 so that I don’t deadlift the day before the meet?
  3. Should I add a few singles on deadlift, maybe @7 and @9 this week?
  4. Any other tips/advice?

As always, thank you for your support!

PS: will be very proudly representing the BBM fam with one of the T-shirts I ordered!

I don’t think you should change much in programming, but I’d probably just skip day 3 entirely and do the meet. I’d pick an opening attempt that’s your best set of 3 you’ve done in the gym and then consider 5 % jumps for subsequent attempts based on how you’re feel.

Have fun and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Jordan! Will let you know on the FB group

So the meet went real well! Decided to go a little aggressive on the jumps and managed to match my all-time DL PR of 165kg (probably left 5kg on the platform too)!

Last time I hit that number was 2+ yrs ago at +14kg bodyweight, so yeah, I’m real happy and I had a blast there!

Thank you guys for all the great content and support you provide, wouldn’t be where I am now without it!

Cheers,
Matteo
