% guidelines for variants

I squat and pull 2x a week, once comp and once for a variant ie pin, pause, HBBS…I usually do top single for comp lifts followed by sets of 5 but for my variants later in the week I like to add some reps and do like four sets of 6-8. My question is, how do I know how heavy to go on those to have carryover for comp lifts? If your doing sets of 5 on variants, would it be around 70%1RM, then if you do sets of 6 would you bump down to 65% and so on?

There is no set % guideline for exercise variants. Not only would it be different for every variant compared to the main lift, it would be different for every person depending on their relative strengths and weaknesses.
