Hand Numbness after wrapping wrists

Hi Docs,

I started using wrist wraps about two weeks ago. I noticed a couple days after my first two sessions with them, where they were used for my comp squat, bench, and press exercises, that my right dorsal hand in the area from my second metatarsal to my to my second tarsal has been consistently numb. Not completely numb, but it feels as if I’ve been given an injection to numb the area and it’s beginning to set in or wear off. Sharp sensations are mostly gone. The muscle in the area seems sore.

It doesn’t bother me during exercises but it is a bit annoying when I’m sitting in class and notice it when writing or typing.

I’ve watched videos about how to wrap SBD wrist wraps and believe I’m doing it appropriately. Should I just proceed and hope I adapt or can I wrap differently? Stop wrapping until it goes away? It does seem to subside some on rest days after not having used wraps. Left hand is fine.

Thanks for the help!

Anytime that numbness is coming on as a symptom with a chance of compression being the cause the first line is to loosen up the compression. Some of this could be unique to the brand you are wearing and some could be unique to your own anatomy. Either way, I wouldn’t recommend continuing to put compression on an area that is eliciting numbing symptoms. If you can wrap differently, that would be my first piece of advice.
