To keep it short and sweet, does anyone know any good reads on joint/pain/health long term in regards to heavy weights. So many older folks always tell me I am going to regret lifting heavy when I get older. The whole reason I got into lifting 4 years ago was to not hurt so much when I get older, #getstrongerlivelonger. I would just really like some good articles or papers I can read myself to better understand and educate myself and others(when they ask) about long term health in regards to strength training. Thanks in advance.
Idk if youre the same person from facebook last night but heres what I posted
Not to be rude but a simple search on pubmed will bring up a lot of articles.
Yea thats me, I thought to post there after already asking here so my b. Also don’t know what pubmed is but now I do so thanks!
Everyone has wear and tear on their joints as a result of the natural aging process.
If you employ a consistent training regimen that respects current data on physiological processes and progressive overload, uses auto regulation (RPE), and are careful about load management, your joints will probably be healthier than they would be without strength training.
In short, those old guys are wrong. If they are in pain, I bet they don’t lift. And if they did, I bet they didn’t manage their training loads well.
