Wear and tear

Doing heavy squats and Deads in a commercial gym always attracts people who seem to think that by exposing my self to such stress I will suffer in the long run, that with time I will accumulate micro trauma and be in horrible pain as an elderly citizen.
They claim that mild form of exercise is best suited for long term health and that Wear and Tear from Strength Training shall inevitably lead to poor joint health.

I don’t listen to those people and their fear of training heavy projected onto me but I feel that I don’t have sufficient knowledge to explain Why training heavy is better in the long run and would result in good joint health and stronger bones and so on. Their main argument is that due to Wear and Tear it’s not as healthy as mild exercise is.

Thank you!

There is no evidence to support their view of the body or of how pain works, which sounds quite mechanical in nature. The body is a complex, living, adaptable organism that can tolerate and thrive under appropriately dosed, progressively overloaded training stress.

Unless you are willing to read the primary literature on these topics, I would suggest carrying on with your life and ignoring them.
