Hook grip effectively train the grip?

Does the hook grip effectively train the grip? I can deadlift up to 190KG with a hook grip, and probably hold on to a lot more weight without any grip problems. However my grip is the limiting factor when RDL with 60KG for sets of 12 without hook grip. I can concentrate better using straps (which I’ve just started using) for the RDL, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m doing myself a disservice from deadlifting mostly with a hook grip?

Hook grip does train the grip. Sounds like your grip endurance isn’t as well developed just yet. I would keep training and pull your heaviest sets sans straps to develop your grip.
