I was wondering how someone would ordinarily progress on a caloric deficit week per week?
Hey there! I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “progress” here, but I’ll give a few possible interpretations.
Training
I would predict little or no short- to medium-term impact on someone’s training progress with respect to strength or conditioning from a modest Calorie deficit.
I would predict a reduction in hypertrophy, which could compromise long term strength gain due to reduced muscle cross sectional area. This is probably most applicable to individuals carrying relatively low amounts of muscle mass.
Weight
Weight trajectory will mirror energy deficit, e.g. a larger deficit will produce a larger amount of weight loss than a smaller deficit. The full “realization” of a modest energy deficit is probably over and done with in 3-4 months, with larger ones plateauing at a year.
Outside of bodybuilding, most people do not need to be managing their nutrition on week-to-week basis IMO.
