Hi Drs,
I have been experiencing symptoms for at least 2 years now where I get “fuzzy brain”, where I have difficulty thinking/concentrating. I feel like just lying down and taking a nap, and to an extent I have low energy but it certainly affects my brain/mind much more than my body. I experience these symptoms usually 3-4 hours after eating a typical sized meal, but sometimes I also experience it when I exercise (i.e. resistance/aerobic training) though in a noticeably milder form.
The symptoms basically serve as a reminder that I need to eat, because for a number of years now, I rarely experience hunger.
On the onset of these symptoms, eating right away resolves it most of the time (until the next meal), but if I delay the meal for an extended period (say 30 min or more), the symptoms usually only “improve” but don’t go away unless I eat the next meal on time. Sometimes my “fuzzy brain” turns into a headache, and sometimes the symptoms don’t go away until I go to bed and wake up the next day.
Since both sides of the family have diabetes, and it seems to have something to do with meal timing and exercise (the symptoms seem quite similar to hypoglycemia), I went to a diabetologist and they ordered a bunch of tests to determine blood sugar levels. However, I was given a clean bill of health based on the lab results.
The diabetologist basically just gave me a shrug and told me to try my luck with a psychiatrist since she didn’t see anything wrong with me. I am not at all convinced that I am fine and I would like to get to the bottom of this.
My question is, what type of doctor can I visit to have this checked out? Where I live, we do not have primary care doctors, only specialists.
TIA!
