Is there a benefit of going over 40g of protein in a meal?

Hi Jordan,

I have heard you say that eating any more than 40g of protein at a time will not contribute to muscle protein synthesis and that one should eat between 3-5 meals spread evenly throughout the day. I have also heard it recommended to up your protein intake when cutting to preserve muscle tissue. So if I eat 1.25x my bodyweight (165lb) while cutting (as recommended in the to be a Beast article) then that means I am eating 206g of protein a day. That would mean I am going a little over 40g in some meals in the day if I eat 5 meals, and WAY over on all of them if I eat 3 meals. Is there a noticeable benefit between eating this protein over 5 meals than over 3 in terms of results?

Secondly, would one see better results on a lean bulk if they ate 2.0g of protein/lb rather than 1.6? I would like to eat as little protein as possible in a day as I just prefer the taste of fats and carbs, but not if it were to compromise my results.

Many thanks,

Arsh

The protein rec’s are 1.6-3.1g/kg/day. I wouldn’t micromanage your protein intake per meal and I don’t think you’ll notice a difference at 1.6 vs 2.0 if you’re gaining or maintaining weight, no.
