Knee pain

After two weeks of limping and knee pain I’ve been diagnosed with baker’s cyst and possible inflammation of the inner ligament in my right knee.
I’ve been instructed to rest and take NSAIDs for a week.
No trauma or special occurrence to explain why.
As I don’t trust non-lifting doctors in these matters, and as I’m aching to start lifting again, I’m hoping you have some sound advice.
Never had knee problems before but two months ago I took up some veeery moderate running after five years of lifting only. No problems from the running though, if this isn’t one.
Please tell me to start squatting ASAP.

Can you perform a bodyweight squat?

Yes, tried it now and it was to my surprise painfree.

Well, there you go.

As much as I, bit embaressed, just want to say thanks and start squatting, is that the measurement? If I can perform a bodyweight squat I can do heavy squats without worsening the injury?

No, if you can do a bodyweight squat you can do a slightly-heavier-than-bodyweight squat.

And if you can do that, you can go slightly heavier than that. And so on.

And there is that slight embaressment again. Not used to being injured and it obviously does something with my reasoning.
Thanks for your time, Doc.
