Hello doctors,
Is there any good evidence about using knee during squats to reduce patellat tendon pain? I’ve heard some people with chronic patellar/quad tendon issues that can comfortably squat with wraps but experience pain with sleeves and some others say that wraps (especially tight ones) make things worse. I’m thinking that wraps may assist on the deepest portion of the squat on knee extension (where the tendon hurts the most) and maybe provide some support to the tendon? I’m currently running your 16 wk rehab and I’m thinking about adding knee wraps on the final stage when I’ll squat with regular speed and loads.

No, i’ve not seen an research evidence demonstrating efficacy of knee sleeves or wraps as it relates to tendinopathies. Tendinopathy isn’t a question of tendon support but rather overload to the area and lack of adaptability. Managing loading and fatigue is the name of the game when it come to tendinopathies.
Using the knee sleeves during the knee rehab protocol is fine - anecdotally people tend to just like how they feel.
