Leg press:squats::hipthrusts:deadlifts?

Jordan has said that he thinks leg press is not worse than squats if the trainee is interested only in hypertrophy. Is this true of hip thrusts and deadlifts as well?

If glute CSA is the ONLY goal for someone, would you be comfortable having them do only hip thrusts and no deadlifting? Would they need more sets of hip thrusts than Deadlifts?

If you would advise that they do both, would you want the hip thrusts done first, in the freshest possible state? Or should they be done after deadlifts?

Thanks

Evanther,

In general, I don’t love these hypotheticals, but I’ll play.

Yes, I think that hip thrusts could work well for glute hypertrophy. I don’t think they’d need more sets than deadlifts, no.

I may advise them to do both and, in fact, I often program them this way when I incorporate both. I don’t think hip thrusts or deadlifts need to be done fresh, however the priority of the training program should dictate what’s first.

Understood. Thanks for humouring me.
