Lifting for almost a year and planning to start SSLP

Hi!

I’ve done Bro Splits (which I regret to this day) and a PHUL program for almost a year and it’s going nowhere (Strength wise).
my current lifts are as follows:

SQ: 4x5x155 lbs
DL: 4x5x185 lbs (with some sort of form breakdown at the last half of the sets)
BP: 4x5x135 lbs

Watching your podcasts have been very helpful and made me realize to prioritize strength and do all the volume later so I’m planning to start SSLP but the problem is I don’t know where to start.

queries:

  1. At what weight should I start ? / Atleast the determinants to know what weight should I start with.
  2. Do I progress my DLs as fast as the phase 1 of SSLP or should I start with phase 2 for the volume of the deadlifts?
  3. I’ve been practicing my chin ups for the past 3 months, should I incorporate chin ups on SSLP early on?

I really appreciate the content you guys are putting out there! Thank you!

  1. This is explained in the book - you should work up in sets of 5 until you find a weight where the bar speed slows down a bit at the end of the set, but you’re still able to maintain good technique. People overthink the significance of the starting point for LP. Over the course of a long training career, it’s not as big of a deal as you think.

  2. Try to progress them as written at first. Once you prove you can’t progress in that fashion, then you can move on.

  3. Sure, you can incorporate them early on.

Are you planning to keep a log, TheRedGuy? I would like to follow your progress.

Also, how old are you if you don’t mind?

Yeah I might have been overthinking it. Thanks Austin!
