Linear programming ?

I am still on linear and I talked to one of the guys on the barbell medicine crew but I believe he is away on vacation right now. If I were to go to a 4 day split instead of 3 day he recommended that I do this: day 1- squat, bench day 2- deadlift, press day 3- squat, bench day 4- deadlift, press. My question is if I go let’s say back to back days like day 1 on Monday then day 2- on Tues will the squatting and benching from day 1 affect my lifts on day 2?

Depends on your exact programming, but generally no, those Day 1 lifts should not affect your Day 2 lifts even if they are on consecutive days  I was worried about that before starting Barbell Medicine’s 12 Week Strength Template but have had no issues at all.

I think training the most important thing while 3 day split is probably more optimal you require a four day split and your body will adjust to it. Once your use to deadlifting after a day of squatting I don’t think it will be affected anymore.

Can you explain to me the rationale? You do only 2 exercises by session and not three anymore? You do 5*3? Where do you put the Power Clean and chin-ups? Is it really better to bring your squat from 3 times a week to 2 times a week? I am also doing SSLP right now and I was thinking about 4 times a week to get more upper body lifts, but I really think that squatting every two days is important. Moreover, don’t forget that as a novice you have to focus a lot on your recovery, and I personally find that a strong 3 times a week is quite taxing.

I am not attacking you, I am just trying to understand for my own sake.

Just to say, in the SSLP you are deadlifting right after squatting and bench / press, so I doubt letting and entire day between the two instead of say 5 minutes is going to be a problem

Thanks guys.
JGL I actually don’t do power cleans. I don’t have anyone around that can teach me power cleans correctly. I do barbell rows instead. And I do chin ups on the days I deadlift.
