Hi Jordan!

I have a question regarding “4@8(~83%), -10% from 4@8 × 4 reps x 2 sets(~73%)”:

If SQ 1rm = 300#, my 4@8 = 249#. Would my next set = -10% from 249 (~225#) OR 73% of 1rm (~220)?

Small difference, I know, but just curious.

Thanks!

GR,

Welcome back to the forum

In this setting, I’d take 10% off the bar from whatever you did 4 @ 8 for. Somewhat related, I think the calculator can be useful for getting you in the ballpark for what load you should choose, but I’d encourage everyone to let how they feel supersede the calculator!

Thanks, Jordan! I took the above example
prescription (including the percentages) directly from PB1Gn2. Not sure which week (2 or 3, maybe?).

That’s what confused me…10% off the bar weight is a bit higher than the -10% off e1rm (83%->73%) .

I think the confusion may be from the slight differences in weight due to the significant figures included in the calculator. 4 @ 8 is 83.7% in the calculator, not 83% exactly. In your example, 4 @ 8 should be exactly 251.1, not 249. Small differences as you can see. Regardless, I would take 10% off the weight lifted in your example and ignore anything calculator related after the top set.
