Lower back muscle tightness while doing paused squats

Good Afternoon,

Currently I’m on phase 2 of the beginner template week 8.2. I’ve been doing paused squats for my second squat movement and made pretty good progress the first few weeks but now the last 2 weeks my lower back muscles have been getting very tight during the workout, if i sit down and bend over to tie my shoes it feels like a really deep stretch. 20-30 minutes after the workout i feel fine and I’m not sore the next day, its just very uncomfortable and sort of painful during the workout and immediately after. I’m not really sure what to do, I don’t know if this is because of a form issue or what but this is the only exercise I’ve had this issue and it just started happening as i increased the weight on the bar.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked out any of our content on managing pain in training? This sounds like a pretty common, straightforward situation arising from progressing a bit quicker than you were ready for. It should be manageable by adjusting loading for a bit.
