Macros, LBM, and the NIH Body Weight Planner

Hello,

I’m 45 yo, about 6ft and 235 lbs, waist measures between 42-45 inches. I’m running Hypertrophy I. I need to get my belly under control and I’m aiming to lose weight at a rate of 2.5% per month.

Should I calculate my macros and calories at my actual weight or my Lean Body Mass (~166 lbs). I’ve read on here that you should use LBM to calculate protein intake, but what about total calories, carbs and fat? When calculating on the NIH BWP, should I use my actual weight or my LBM?

Thanks for everything!

I would use your body weight to calculate calories and protein intake. I’m not sure what you’re asking about carbohydrates and fat calculations. Can you clarify?

I saw you tell another guy that he should base his protein intake on his lean body mass instead of his actual weight and was wondering if total calories, carbs, and fat should also be calculated based off LBM instead of actual body weight. That person was similar to me in that his waist was too big and he needed to get it under 35 inches

Where? I don’t typically recommend that.

I couldn’t find the thread, but if you’re saying that you don’t typically recommend that I’ll assume I read it wrong or misunderstood. Thanks for everything!

Yea I don’t think we need to micromanage recommendations based on LBM vs actual weight in most cases.
