I noticed my nipples began to get puffy a few months after I started lifting. I was 19 when this happened. I’m now 20 years old and recently got my gynecomastia diagnosed by a doctor, as well as had a blood test which revealed slightly elevated estrogen levels (unsurprisingly). My testosterone is within in the normal range and I’ve never taken anabolic steroids. Do you guys have any experience with treatments for this? My doctor wasn’t very helpful. What type of treatment options would you recommend? Should I wait a few more years to see if it goes away or look into treatment now? It’s not a health threatening issue but it is aesthetically unappealing and destroys my confidence. Just looking for some answers.
Many cases of this ultimately resolve spontaneously.
It can sometimes be seen in the setting of hypogonadism (low testosterone), hyperthyroidism, cirrhosis, or in very rare cases, as a manifestation of breast cancer.
Tamoxifen can sometimes be beneficial in this situation, and sometimes surgery is needed to excise the excess glandular tissue.
