Morton’s neuroma after metatarsal surgery

Hello Doctors,

I’ve broken my outer metatarsal (trauma), had a wire inserted, and removed after a year. So far so good.

A few days after the removal I started getting the symptoms of mertons neuroma when wearing shoes (the shoes are rather wide – I’ve never worn especially tight shoes in the past).
I cannot really walk normally when wearing shoes, though the pain changes in intensity over time.

Any non-invasive treatment you can recommend looking into?
Is this something that gets worse when untreated? I saw an orthopaedic, and he told me to use a massage ball, but didn’t seem very interested/concerned in this.

Many thanks!

Hey, thanks for the questions. Who provided the diagnosis of Morton’s neuroma and how was this identified?

the orthopedic who oversaw my treatment told me this will go away (he didn’t examine the issue in any way) and prescribed rolling exercises with a fascia ball.

I googled the symptoms and mortons neuroma came up (the symptoms match very, very well)

finding a new orthopedic here is hard (usually a 1-2 month wait and many don’t take any new patients at all).

Interesting. I wouldn’t likely agree with recommended management based on the information you’ve provided. We’d be happy to consult with you: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/shop/pain-rehab/pain-rehab-remote-consultation/

Something simple as changing shoes may be helpful but we’d be able to give more insight after speaking with you further.
