Foot Problems

Hi Doctors,

I have some nagging foot pain for about 3 weeks on my left foot from the first metatarsal to the 4th. The pain seems to increase when I am not wearing shoes on a hard surface (like walking on tile in the kitchen) but it is manageable to nonexistent when I am wearing cushioned shoes. It has not been any better or worse until yesterday when I played a game of basketball for my cardio. I normally play basketball once a week for GPP but I haven’t played in a few weeks so I expected to get more sore than usual. The concerning thing to me was that my 4th toe went numb and started tingling during the game. This morning the numbness/tingling is better but it is sill there.

Do either of you have any concerns about this or some strategies for mitigation? I have already reduced the weight on squats because it tends to give me some foot fatigue.

I am currently running the Hypertrophy 3 day program and completed week 4. Prior to this I completed the bridge 1.0 with no foot pain.

Thanks!

Hey @norb , sorry to hear about this. We’d likely need a consult to give individualistic advice on this. Do you have any other ongoing health issues? Any recent traumas? Hw old are you?

Michael,

I am a 26M. Last year I had a fracture in my other foot (right) and was in a walking boot for 3 weeks. As far as I know I am healthy other than this foot issue.

Gotcha. What were the circumstances surrounding the right foot fracture?

It is possible to develop stress fractures in the metatarsals of the foot. Given the chronicity of the symptoms and surrounding inciting activity, I’m inclined to say you should seek consult.

Thanks for the responses. I will submit the questionnaire for the consult.

The right foot fracture was sustained while I was playing basketball. I rolled my ankle badly and the doctor found a crack in the 3rd metatarsal when I went in for an x-ray. I’m not sure if the fracture was a result of the trauma.
