Neck spasms

Hello,

Years ago I had a neck injury and received the necessary tests that ruled out any serious injury. Now, I experience a lot of pain and tension in my upper back and neck area, along with a lot of popping. This leads to headaches and sometimes migraines. After a doctors visit and x-ray, they found that I have a lot of muscle spasms in my neck that likely causes the pain and tension. They told me that this type of condition, if left untreated, could lead to spinal stenosis and suggested that I focus on loosening the muscles. Their suggestions were also to strengthen the muscles around my upper spine but said that I did not need to do any overhead movements, such as overhead press or pull ups, because they cause more tension in the neck. I do not think it is necessary to stop doing these types of exercises since they strengthen these muscles. I know I should continue to do the main lifts, including OHP, and focus on proper neck alignment during these movements but would you suggest any other kinds of movements to help and keep the muscles from continuing to tighten? Regular massages? Electrical stimulation?

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the diagnosis, recommendations, and treatment you have received are bullshit.

I would not stop training the upper body movements in this situation, and I would not concern myself with having “tight” muscles.

You may find some helpful information on neck pain on that website as well.

Okay, I assumed that a lot of what he was saying was BS and I knew that y’all would call it.
Thanks Austin!
