Next template after bodybuilding I

Hi all, I have a question on what which template to follow after BB 1. My background:

  • 1 or 2 years of non consistent training with barbell.
  • 4 years of consistent strength and powerbuilding barbell medicine templates (1RM 500 deadlift, 400 squat, 285 bench)
  • 2 years of on and off training. Kind of lost the passion for lifting, started focusing more on music.
  • Now I’m back, but I want to focus on bodybuilding and looking good rather than strength.

I am on my 4th run of the BB 1 template after running the beginner template. I am thinking of switching programs.

My requirements: 3 day routine; squat and deadlift no more than once a week.

The website recommendation seems to be the hypertrophy 2, but that has squats and DL on multiple days. The bodybuilding 2 seems to require 12 months of practice.

What do you recommend I do? Should I just run BB 1 for a year before switching to BB 2? Thanks!

Hey Victor,

I think if you’re not running the 2nd Generation of BB I, you should try that. If you’ve been running it for awhile, I think the 3-day version of BB II would work well for you. You could do Hypertrophy II if you liked, and sub in machine, dumbbell, or other non-barbell versions of the squat and deadlift patterns the second time they show up. In the Excel, there are multiple options you can select from for people who don’t want to squat and deadlift multiple times per week.
