One ma set of five per week on the core lifts

I first read this in Mean Ol’ Mr. Gravity. For some reason i can’t find the exact quote, but as I recall Rip asserted that working up to a grindy set of five once a week on the main lifts would be powerful enough to maintain (or nearly maintain) strength in a late novice/early intermediate athlete. I think that original question dealt with a baseball player who played more than once a week.

even at the time this seemed so fantastically unlikely that I don’t think I even tried it, but…

is there any chance whatsoever that the old buzzard was right about this?

It’s one of those things that those of us who hate training just desperately want to believe.

I’m honestly not even sure why I’m posting this because I’m like 99.9% sure ya’ll are going to say “no way”. Would this even be significantly better than doing nothing at all? Probably barely

This may help.

So, that strategy may work for some, and won’t work for others. As usual, blanket one-size-fits-all recommendations like that are generally unhelpful oversimplifications.
