Hello,I am currently trying to learn as much as I can from programming and in my research I came across the idea of overreaching.
1)What’s your opinion on overreaching and supercompensation?Do you believe it can increase strength and muscle mass?Is there any research on strength training athletes and overreaching?Do you use it in your training programs and for your clients?
2)Can you suggest me sources to learn more about programming?Blogs, youtube channels, podcasts, books, researches?
I recommend you read the “Scientific Principles of Strength Training” by Chad Wesley Smith and Mike Israetel. That book is a great book in general, but they also discuss functional overreaching. From what I have gathered, overreaching is a bit more functional at the last week or two of a hypertrophy biased phase/block than at the end of a strength biased phase/block. There’s a lot of debate on super compensation for strength, and my interpretation at least seems to be that it is more of a placebo than anything, with any real benefit being mostly attributable to the dropping of fatigue after “overreaching” as opposed to the actual overreaching itself.
