Optimal approach to peak for fitness test while not detraining in lifts

Is the GPP/Endurance Template a good option to slowly improve lifts, or at least maintain them, while preparing for an endurance based fitness test? Based on a Q&A I was listening to recently and my own personal experience I agree you can adjust training about four weeks out from a PT test and perform well, but usually when I alter my training protocol to incorporate an endurance focus, I end up losing progress on my lifts. Acknowledging the fact that a Coach is the “optimal” answer to this conundrum, do you think the Endurance Template is a good alternative? Thanks
