Hello
Thank you for taking the time to read through my message first of all. I am writing to you because I need some help regarding some aches that I had while training, that my doctors were not able to figure out so far.
About a month ago, I noticed some very dull aches either in my lower abdomen or around my right testicle, while bending over or doing squats and deadlifts. At this point, the pain only came when i was doing heavier lifting. I initially didnt think too much and kept training for about a week, thinking it will go away. When it didnt, I got a bit worried, and thought that I might have a hernia. So I went to my urologist and got an exam with ultrasound. He concluded that no hernia is present and most likely I strained a muscle or something. With that diagnosis, I kept training pretty much normally (I reduced a bit of weight on my squats and deadlifts). The pain didnt go away, and eventually it got a bit worst. Last week I did a heavy set of block pulls it flared up around my groin again, and was even aching for a long time after training. I should explain that this pain is not intense or unbearable at all, except during the heavier sets.
After that session, I scheduled an appointment with my orthopedist, and he examined the area. He was not able to find anything unusual by hand, and sent me to get an ultrasound and x-rays. I did that, went back to the doctor, and said that everything is fine on the x-rays, however the ultrasound of my kidneys on my left side (the opposite side of where the pain is), revealed that I have an extra kidney. The doctor who did the ultrasound said that it’s nothing to worry about, and most likely does not have anything to do with my current issue. Now, I know that my mother and a relative on my mothers side got diagnosed with the same thing a long time ago, and had no further issues with it. However, when I went back to my orthopedist, he said that it is most likely the reason for the pain, as he can not find anything else. He said that it is possible that the extra kidney is pushing against my urethra (I believe that is the word he said), which caused the pain. He recommended my to visit my urologist again, which I will next Wednesday. He also said to stop training for the next few weeks, to let the area rest.
Given this information, do you agree with the diagnosis? Have you heard of people, or maybe experienced a same kind of issue?
Also, can you possibly give me some advice training wise? So far I did Strength 1 and was in my 5th week of PL:2.
Last week I did the first week of PB2 and avoided the squat and deadlift portions (for the time being at least), however I am not sure which template I should keep doing.
I figure I need a bit of break from powerlifting, until this issue is resolved, which is why I started PB, to reduce the load on my body. But do you think a less squat and dl heavy template like hypertrophy or the new bodybuilding template would serve me better for the time being?
Thank you very much for reading through this long message.
