Dr. Jordan and Dr.Austin. I just found out three weeks ago I have pinched neck that is causing pain in my shoulder and my pressing strength has greatly diminished. Do you have any recommendations to help get back in the gym faster? Also the doctor has told me that if I want longevity in my life I should not powerlift as I am 48. I have not even taped into my full potential. What are your opinions?
Regards
John
How was this diagnosed?
You are experiencing motor weakness in an arm?
What have you tried so far?
And I am confident you are familiar with our opinions on the matter of strength training and longevity.
Austin
thanks for the quick response. I got x-ray from chiropractor. He told me I had a pinched nerve in my neck. He told me that the pain in my neck was making my arm shut down. I tried pressing Monday and it’s like my whole left side lost almost all it’s strength in two weeks. He asked me what kind of weight I was lifting and I said deadlift closing in on 500. Squat 400 and press about 190 then said if you continue lifting like that you want be lifting 10 years from now. I don’t agree as I know I haven’t tapped on my full potential even at 48 years old. Yes I know how you and Jordon feel on longevity and barbell training.
You can’t diagnose this with plain film X-ray alone.
Given your symptoms, I recommend that you get evaluated by a physician and never visit this chiropractor again.
