Plant Based Diet for a Teen?

Hi, I’m Roman, just a 15 year old trying to make some gains. I recently just watched Game Changers and, though I’m pretty impressionable, I think it really pushed me to begin something that’s been on my mind for a while: a plant based diet. Do you believe this would work for a teen if I got the proper amount of protein? Should I just stick to my milk and my FAVHES? Also, does soy have any negative effects because I’ve seen varying opinions on such? Lastly, (sorry for all the questions) do you believe I would have to take any other supplements other than the mutli-vitamins I already take? Thanks!

Hey Roman,

Thanks for the post. A few thoughts:

  1. Gamechangers was a very biased and overall unscientific documentary, which is similar to most documentaries on nutrition, unfortunately.
  2. A vegan or vegetarian diet can work just fine, provided protein and total calories are correct.
  3. I would not recommend doing GOMAD or LP. https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog…-prescription/
  4. Soy is fine.
  5. I would not recommend taking a multi-vitamin unless your doctor has prescribed it to you for some medical condition.

Ah okay, thanks for responding. Yeah, I figured game changers was probably pretty biased, but I still think plant based is better just for environmental reasons. Also, I was kidding about LP and GOMAD, I’m gonna start the Beginner Template soon haha. Finally, what’s wrong with mutli-vitamins? Thanks!

Ah, I forgot one last thing, sorry. Are there any other supplements you’d suggest? Thank you again.

Multivitamins aren’t necessary and may confer some health risks for no benefits unless you need to take them based on your doctor’s recommendation.

I don’t think you need any supplements unless you’d find it easier to have a protein supplement We make a vegan protein suppleent.
